Edmonton’s Best Burger Hunt Stop #4

There’s a new leader on my list of Best Burgers in Edmonton!

Today we stopped in at Hundred Bar+Kitchen downtown to visit Chef Andrew Cowan. He cooked us up one of his famous Alley burgers. Every now and then he puts the call out via Twitter on a Friday or Saturday that he’ll be serving up gourmet burgers out the back door of the restaurant for just 5 bucks. It’s a steal because they’re just as spectacular as you get on a regular basis at Hundred Bar+Kitchen. Chef Cowan says he likes to keep his burgers simple and uncomplicated but that doesn’t mean without taste…far from it actually.

The burger he artfully constructed had a massive burger patty…nothing but meat…no fillers..and salt and pepper. Seasoned just right …not too salty, the way a lot of burgers end up.

The bun was fresh, the lettuce buttery…the cheddar aged (just the way a like it) and he put an egg on top…complete with the runny yolk. YUM! The whole thing was yum! Like I said my favourite so far.

When we were leaving I noticed the delicious aroma coming from the restaurant. Believe it or not, it smelled just like our burger tasted. You know, that smell of perfectly grilled meat over an open flame. Strange but true.

Follow me on Twitter @JamieLite957FM and if Chef Cowan puts out the Alley Burger invite I’ll retweet it for sure! I want everyone to try one!

So, the list so far….and remember I have yet to meet a burger I don’t like..this is just the best of the best….It’s like burger Idol!

#1 – Hundred Bar+Kitchen

Jamie

    Hi Jamie & Dan,

I’ve been watching your blog about Edmonton’s best burger and keep hoping you’ll hit Red Robin’s next. The “Red Robin Bacon Cheeseburger” is my favourite burger of all time! I’m a bread girl too, so I was happy to read that you appreciate a nice, soft fresh burger bun. They use real cheddar cheese (not that processed “crap”), although you can choose from three or four different cheeses, tomato, lettuce and mayo, and I find it doesn’t need anything else. They also serve it with unlimited steak fries, but I can only eat four or five of them, because I’m usually focused completely on the burger.

Anyway, thought I’d toss the Red Robin idea your way. It’s worth a shot! I’ve done the WeightWatchers calculations on it though, and one Red Robin Bacon Cheeseburger contains nearly an entire day’s worth of points! lol

    Enjoy your burgers. Cheers, Lesley
